QUICK CHANGE PLATES - REGRINDING
Precision Grinding cuts, grinds and machines a variety of parts for die sets to achieve flatness, parallelism and squareness. These parts are referred to as punch press plates: press die plates, die shoes, die sets, stripper plates, and bolster plates. These specialty parts are normally used in conjunction with a die made from sections of tool steel such as A-2, D-2, S-7 and others. A die will punch, cut, shear, form or stretch a material such as metals, ceramics, and plastics, being used in a manufactured part. Flame Hardened materials are also used in some dies. We make these plates from A36, 1045, and 4140 among other steels. Precision Grinding can also provide compression springs, plain bearing components, ball bearing components, various pins, or graphite impregnated bushings for custom die builders and for in-house repair.
Stamping companies struggle with the downtime it takes to change dies to run a different product or part. The easiest way to minimize this downtime is to use a quick change die system. A Quick Die Change plate (QDC) can be attached to the bottom of each die set, allowing your maintenance department to change dies in a fraction of the time. By adding locator pins on your bolster and locator notches on your QDC Plates, machinists can position the die set quickly. The QDC plate can be made a standard size, while accommodating die sets of various sizes. Reconfigurations and updates such as these may also allow you to take advantage of automatic clamping.

Blanchard Ground and CNC Machined Bolster Plate |
STEEL MOLDS : CNC Machined Steel Mold |
We manufacture press die plates from medium carbon steel such as 1045, 4140, or a mild A36. Precision Grinding, Inc. has over 35 years experience in Regrinding plates for every type of machine and machining process. Our manufacturing capacity includes flame cutting tables, large Mattison and Blanchard Grinders, large bar mills and planer mills, (2) Vertical CNC Machining Centers along with 5,000 feet dedicated solely to our steel fabricators.
The top plate is also known as the top shoe, and the bottom as the bottom shoe; the pair of plates are "Die shoes". Stripper plates are slightly oversized to the part being cut, stamped or molded. As the name suggests, these strip away the part whereby a laborer can easily remove the part from the leftover material. Another component part, the sub plate may be either the main, bottom stage or may have large part-shaped holes whereby parts are guided toward a collection basket. To complete the set, we also manufacture riser blocks, also known as precision parallels.
Your One-Stop-Shop for Custom Steel Plate ! Regrinding parts is one of our specialties. T-slotted Bolster plates are usually found in pairs mounted in the press, one normally stationary while the other moves hydraulically or mechanically to close the die. Precision Grinding, Inc. both manufactures new and reconditions used bolster plates. We can regrind flat, add t-slots, add slug clearance, add locator pins, or modify bolsters to meet your needs as they change. |
